After Everything

I never expected anything for my one month stay here in Thailand. I didn’t want to keep thinking about what would happen and decided to just go with the waves of events – which I successfully did.
It was like a home away from home. I never felt unwanted or unwelcomed. The people around me were hospitable and very comfortable to be with. I didn’t have a hard time dealing with them because they, themselves, were willing to talk and take care of my needs. It was like, I was also one of them. Being with them allowed me to learn some things like treating people without seeing their differences, sharing without doubts and hesitations, and building friendships with people you’re working with. The people I see every day never failed to give their sincerest smiles when they see you, ask questions about how was your day, share stories, and I truly appreciate the gesture. I honestly think that the persons around me made it much easier to survive this program. They made me feel that it was like an ordinary day where you go to school and teach. There was no pressure to do extravagant things.
Aside from the people, I was able to go to historical places and tourist spots which show the culture of Thailand and traits of its people. I have come to understand more the diversity of religion and how people respect that diversity. I have seen the perseverance to preserve historical figures and places which play great roles in establishing the community. I have noticed the great respect of people to nature through safeguarding natural resources and maintaining the original looks of places.
The most important thing I experienced and learned in this internship was the idea that teaching may seem difficult at first but when you put your heart at it, everything will just come easy. Yes, I had a hard time teaching students who don’t speak the same mother tongue as I speak but I have seen the will in my students’ faces to learn amidst the language barrier. And that just made me want to teach them more. I want to get to know them more. I want to share wonderful things about English, about the world, and many more. With the short time given to me to be in front of the students, a burning passion has sparked within me to walk with them in their journey to explore English. I always got the feeling of excitement every time I walk into the classroom. I would always be amused of their joyful faces as they participate in the discussion and activities. I am lost with appropriate words to express how happy I am to be with them and how I want them to attain success in their future endeavors. I would love to see them reach their dreams with the hope that I would have a small part of their successes.
For one month, I have gotten out of my comfort zone. I have mingled with new people. I have gone to places I never expected to be. I have felt so much great emotions that I will surely treasure. This has been my internship journey and this is me saying I am very much thankful of taking this opportunity to see the beauty of Surat Thani and the people living in it.
